SPORTY schoolkids were honoured for their achievements as they received a national award at a special assembly.
Staff at Auchenlodment Primary rolled out the red carpet as pupils took pole position to earn a SportScotland prize.
The Johnstone school’s efforts to increase the amount of physical activity both within and outwith term time was enough to secure a Gold Award from the national body for sport.
To receive the stamp of approval, the school had to meet a strict list of criteria that included having a sport committee led by pupils, as well as delivering two hours of physical education to every child per week.
Youngsters took the challenge to heart as they turned their school into a hotbed of sporting activity, even becoming the first in Renfrewshire to offer parkour to pupils.
As well as the SportScotland award, children were given the chance to share their achievements outside of school at the special assembly, in front of all of their classmates.
Tracy Scott, acting principal teacher, told The Gazette it was important the success was pupil led.
She said: “Our approach is to empower the children, so that is why we have sports leaders in the school.
“We want the school to be a place the children want to be at and that is why we want to celebrate their achievements.
“Sport is hugely important to not only their physical health but also their mental wellbeing and happiness.”
