COPS are well prepared for Bonfire Night as they look to implement procedures to deal with firework related behaviour.

East Renfrewshire Police will carry out their policing plan which involves working with local fire stations tonight, November 5 - when services are expected to be of "enhanced demand".

Officers have dealt with regular reports of youths in possession of fireworks in recent weeks, but preparations are put in place to limit fire safety incidents this Bonfire Night.

Area Inspector for East Renfrewshire Police Bryan McGeogh said: "We do get a trend of reports of youths with fireworks at this this time of year. We've got a policing plan in place for enhanced demand, and for more calls across the subdivision.

"We have a local problem solving team, and canvas officers across Barrhead, Giffnock and Clarkston to work alongside our fire service and there is dedicated resources to deal with firework related behaviour.

"We hope to be able to nip it in the bud and make an impact early to limit any issues."
