DRIVERS are being told to expect delays this weekend as resurfacing work is carried out on the M8 motorway in Renfrewshire.

A contraflow system will be in place on a 1km stretch of the westbound carriageway near Bishopton from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.

The work will take place between junctions 30 and 31 – Old Greenock Road to North Porton Road – with the junction 30 westbound on-slip closed.

Scotland TranServ said the contraflow is necessary to complete the £218,000 project as quickly and safely as possible.

Adam Sarwar, project lead, added: “We’ve been waiting on a suitable window to carry out this work, keeping disruption to the thousands of commuters and businesses using this route every day to a minimum.

“Developers constructing the new interchange at Bishopton for Dargavel Village and associated motorway junctions have recently completed their works.”

Motorists are advised to allow plenty of time for their journeys.

Special arrangements have been made for emergency service vehicles.
