RENFREWSHIRE Council is close to agreeing its third town twinning arrangement – this time with Renfrew County, in Canada.
The local authority, which already has partnerships with Gladsaxe, in Denmark, and Fürth, in Germany, has been approached by Renfrew County, in Ontario, which was named after the town of Renfrew by Scottish immigrants.
A report will be presented at today’s meeting of the finance, resources and customer services policy board, asking councillors to agree to further talks to finalise the terms of a formal town twinning agreement.
If given the green light, council officers will meet with representatives of Renfrew County.
A further report would be submitted to the finance board on the outcome of the discussions.
Renfrew County is near Ottawa and has a population of around 102,000.
