MHAIRI Black has pledged to “protect communities from relentless Tory attacks” if she retains her Paisley and Renfrewshire South seat.
The SNP woman launched her election campaign in Houstoun Square, Johnstone, and Paisley’s High Street at the weekend as she looks to make it three wins in a row.
Ms Black, who in 2015 became the youngest ever modern Member of Parliament, says her re-election would continue to offer constituents hope for the future.
She told The Gazette: “Being the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South has been a privilege but the job is not done.
“The austerity politics from Westminster is harming many individuals, families and communities all across my constituency.
“My office has dealt with over 13,000 constituency cases since I was first elected in 2015 but there is still so much more to do.”

Ms Black has been vocal in championing the WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality) campaign, which has seen women born in the 1950s fight against pension changes.
She added: “We can’t keep trying to defend our communities from relentless Tory attacks, we need to offer a brighter future for everyone in the area.
“That will only come when we have the real powers of a normal nation, to choose policies which will benefit all our constituents and create a fairer, healthier and economically stronger nation where all the decisions about Scotland are made here in Scotland.
“I’m running for election again to help as many of my constituents as possible.”
