A COUNCILLOR has welcomed the opening of a new support group for men in Johnstone.
Active Communities recently launched a ‘man cave’ at their hub in Quarry Street, which offers a safe space for men to have a coffee and a chat.
Independent councillor Andy Doig, who represents the town, has hailed it as a “crucial” tool in efforts to tackle mental health issues.
He said: “The whole idea is about providing a space for men where recreational and educational interests can be explored.
“I am delighted that Active Communities in Johnstone are piloting this important project. They are doing sterling work with various women’s groups, so it is good to know men are not being left behind.
“While we are all very proud of Scotland’s NHS, we all also know that being aware of our own health is crucial and it in this regard that I think the Johnstone man cave can make a real difference locally.
“Women are very aware of the need to take care of themselves and the man cave will be a great step forward in raising men’s health awareness.”
The man cave meets every Monday, between 7pm and 9pm.
