COPS have appealed to the community to “look out for vulnerable residents” after a pensioner was conned out of £28,000 for roof repairs.
The hefty bill only came to light after it was flagged up by bank staff and investigated by Police Scotland’s Financial Investigations Unit.
A 51-year-old man has now been arrested following a fraud probe into the dealings with the 73-year-old Bishopton pensioner.
Inspector Jim Cast, based in Johnstone, told The Gazette: “Often people who are the victims of such a crime do not come forward because they do not know they have been a victim or because they are embarrassed.
“I would ask people to continue to look out for their friends, family, and neighbours who may be more vulnerable and could be taken advantage of.”
If you believe you may have been the victim of a rogue trader, please call police on 101.
