CONSERVATIVE candidate Mark Dougan insists his party are the ones to get Brexit done.

After three years of arguing back and forth about how the UK should exit the EU, the 23-year-old believes many people are at the end of their tether and the process needs a swift conclusion.

Despite facing opposition to leaving the bloc from the likes of the Liberal Democrats and the SNP, Mr Dougan is holding firm, saying it is the right way to go.

The PhD student, who declined to reveal which way he voted in the 2016 EU referendum, said: “Regardless of how I or how anyone voted, we have to respect democracy. That’s what we are trying to push in our party.

“The majority of people voted against independence in 2014, the majority of people UK-wide voted to leave the EU. There’s different reasons why people voted certain ways and people say politicians lied about certain things but the fact is that’s how people voted.

“We just need to get Brexit sorted now, so people can move on with their lives.”

Mr Dougan added: “What I’ve seen while campaigning is that people, whether or not they’re going to vote Conservative, think this Brexit thing should just finish. The media over-egg it sometimes as well, just by talking about it day in, day out, and people are getting bored.”
