CHILDREN in families who are struggling to make ends meet are guaranteed to have visits from Santa this Christmas, thanks to the generosity of people across Renfrewshire.

An Aladdin’s Cave of toys has been created at a Paisley storage depot in preparation for distribution in advance of Christmas Eve.

It’s all the work of Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank and its supporters, who are determined to spread festive cheer and goodwill to as many families as possible.

A busy period of fundraising continued on Thursday when people brought gifts to a coffee morning at the Storage Vault in Paisley’s Macdowall Street, where the toys are being kept prior to distribution.

Lauren Roy-Sutherland, who runs the toy bank with husband Craig, told The Gazette: “We were delighted that the coffee morning raised £414, which was an amazing amount.”

This is the second year of the toy bank, which is being sponsored by The Gazette.

Several organisations working closely with communities in Renfrewshire, plus schools and nurseries, have kept the toy bank busy with referrals.

Lauren said: “We have already started distribution to more than 100 referrals and we expected that to rise to at least 1,000.”
