LABOUR hopeful Moira Ramage has insisted another referendum on Brexit is “the most democratic thing to do” ahead of polling day.
The Paisley and Renfrewshire South candidate believes voters were not clearly told about the potential consequences of leaving the European Union before answering the Leave or Remain question.
And even though people may well end up voting the same way, Mrs Ramage said it is important they get a chance to make a more informed decision.
Mrs Ramage, who insists she will always be a ‘Remainer,’ added: “That binary question of Leave or Remain didn’t give people a flavour of what was involved.
“Let’s say you are going for an operation and your doctor says ‘here’s why I think you should have the operation, here’s the upside and here’s the downside and you decide.’ That didn’t really happen with Brexit. It was just ‘do you want the operation or not?’ and people said ‘oh, let’s just go ahead.’
“Now they discover there are a variety of adverse consequences. Had they known about them, they might have taken a different path.
“We’ve said let’s get a deal, and it may mean another referendum, but at least you’d be making an informed decision. If you still want to come out, fine.
“It’s the most democratic thing to do and it may have the advantage of getting rid of all this division.”
