A THUG involved in the death of a Lochwinnoch soldier attacked a policeman and threatened to kill him and his colleagues during an armed siege.

Ian Wallace, 38, committed his latest offences last month – a decade after the death of Scots Guardsman Paul McGee.

Violent yob Wallace had been charged with murdering Mr McGee, 28, who died in his mother’s arms after being stabbed in Lochwinnoch in October 2009, but later agreed a deal to plead guilty to the lesser charge of assault.

He then gave evidence against his co-accused Barry McGrory, who was convicted of murdering Mr McGee and sentenced to a minimum of 20 years behind bars.

Wallace was jailed for 15 months for his role in the attack.

And it has now emerged that, in the early hours of November 6 this year, he issued chilling threats following an armed siege at his home.

Wallace was spotted walking along Main Road, Ferguslie, Paisley, punching cars as they passed him.

The police were contacted and, when officers arrived, found Wallace in the middle of the road.

Fearing that he was armed, they called for back-up and followed him to his home.

Officers tried to speak to him through the door but he responded by threatening to bite off their noses if they entered.

The stand-off lasted 40 minutes before Wallace eventually agreed to come out.

He was taken to Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital, where he continued to shout and swear and threaten the officers with violence, leaving other patients alarmed.

When it was time to leave, Wallace asked for his handcuffs to be taken off so he could put his jacket on but, when officers refused because of his aggressive behaviour, he began struggling with them and tried to bite Constable James Gunn on the arm.

Once in a police van, Wallace continued to issue threats, bawling: “I’ve done it before, I’ll do it again.

“I’m not scared of doing time. You think this is a threat – it’s a fact.”

After being taken to a police station, Wallace warned he would “hunt” down the officers, adding: “I’m gonna kill you. This is a promise, I am going to follow you home from your work and kill yous.

“I’ve done it before to police and will do it again.”

Wallace admitted his guilt previously and returned to the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court last week to be sentenced after background reports were prepared.

He claimed he had been drunk and on drugs at the time and was struggling with mental health problems stemming from the murder trial.

Defence solicitor David Nicholson successfully argued Wallace, who has 36 previous convictions, should be spared jail.

Sheriff Hugh McGinty placed Wallace on a Community Payback Order that will see him supervised by social workers for 18 months and carrying out 180 hours of unpaid work in the next nine months.

Wallace was also placed on a Restriction of Liberty Order, which will see him fitted with an electronic tag and having to remain within his Paisley home between 7pm and 7am every day for the next four months.
