THE annual Renfrewshire Boxing Day hunt took place in Houston yesterday, as keen hunters both young and old took to the countryside in the yearly tradition.

Participants roamed the Houston countryside on horseback as they celebrated the event which has taken place on Boxing Day for over 80 years.

Despite the event being called a 'hunt', no animals are killed during the day, after foxhunting was banned in the UK in 2005.

Instead, the hounds and horses follow a pre-scented trail around the countryside as the party follow along the trail.

Spectators were also invited along, with enthusiasts also able to follow the hunt route.

Donations were also received by members, in a 'Christmas Box', which were raised to thank staff for their hard work throughout the year.
