Renfrewshire Council has insisted there is no plan to remove the collection of brown bins after an elected member warned the service could face the axe.
Councillor Eddie Devine, who heads up the council’s opposition Labour group, suggested the service could face being cut amid calls for further investment from the Scottish Government in the council’s core budget.
But the council has hit back saying there is no plan to pull the service.
A council spokesman said: “To clarify, there is no plan to remove the brown bin from our collection service.

“We are committed to providing our residents with the means to recycle and putting food and garden waste into the brown bin is a key part of this.”
Cllr Devine’s calls for more investment from the Scottish Government came after it emerged that between 2013/14 and 2018/19, government funding for Renfrewshire Council reduced by £130 per head, according to the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICE).
COSLA president Councillor Alison Evison said communities were losing pride in the places they live as councils hit breaking point.
