VILLAGERS are being warned to be on the lookout for a suspected bogus workman targeting vulnerable pensioners.
Police say a man, claiming to be a tree surgeon, pounced on an elderly Brookfield resident yesterday, forcing him to hand over three-figure sum of cash for a job.
The suspect is yet to return to the Darluith Park property and cops believe it may have been a fraudulent call.
Officers are now urging residents to avoid getting work done by those who come to their doorstep unannounced and to be extra vigilant in the Brookfield area for any suspicious activity.
Inspector Jim Cast, based in Renfrew, told The Gazette: "We want to remind people to be wary of workmen going door-to-door in the area.
"Please do not be afraid to challenge them and to always make sure they have all of the appropriate credentials.
"We would also ask people to keep an eye for their neighbours, especially if they are getting work done."
If you believe you have been targeted by a bogus workman, call police on 101.
