THE gap between house prices in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire remains stark, latest figures show.

Property values in both areas have increased over the last 12 months, with Renfrewshire experiencing a sharper rise.

However, on average, East Renfrewshire homes remain around £100,000 more expensive.

The figures reflect the broader picture in Scotland, where property prices have been growing faster than the UK average.

The latest provisional statistics from the UK House Price Index (HPI) show the average price of a property in East Renfrewshire in November 2019 was £228,733 – an increase of 3.8 per cent since November 2018.

On average, the area has the third highest price in the country, behind only East Lothian and Edinburgh, where people can expect to pay £277,600 when buying a home.

This eclipses the Scottish average of £154,798.

In contrast, Renfrewshire is in the bottom half of Scotland’s house value ‘league table,’ with an average price tag of £126,210.

However, this represents a hike of almost five per cent since last November – among the biggest increases in the country and easily outstripping the Scottish average price change of 3.5 per cent.

Janet Egdell, of Registers of Scotland, said: “Scotland’s house prices grew at a faster rate than the UK in the year to November 2019. However, the average house price in Scotland was £154,798, whereas in England the average price stood at £251,222 – and, in London, the average was £475,458.

“Prices vary across Scotland, with the highest-priced area to purchase a property being City of Edinburgh and the lowest-priced area being East Ayrshire, where the average price was £95,941.”

Throughout the country, detached houses showed the largest increase, rising by 4.3 per cent to an average of £266,320.

Flats showed the smallest increase, rising by 2.6 per cent to an average of £111,511.

Average price increases were recorded in 29 of Scotland’s local authority areas, when comparing prices with the previous year.
