A POPULAR volunteer at Johnstone Credit Union has retired after almost 20 years of service.

Jean Millar, 74, began volunteering for the organisation back in 2002.

However, she has now decided to retire due to health reasons.

Jean said: “The main reason I ended up volunteering there was that I had a brain tumour, which meant my working life was cut slightly short.

“When I saw the advert, I thought ‘right, I need to keep the grey matter turning here.’ That was why I volunteered and I just never looked back.

“I obviously enjoyed it or I wouldn’t have been there all these years.

“It doesn’t cost you any money, you get to meet people, what’s not to like about volunteering?”

Margaret Bryce, manager at Johnstone Credit Union, hailed Jean as “a very loyal and excellent volunteer.”

She added: “We rely heavily on volunteers, so it’s really good when you get one like Jean who is so committed to doing everything and gets on so well with everyone.

“We’re always looking for volunteers and, if it’s something you are looking to do, you should get in touch with us.”

Anyone who is interested in becoming part of the team at Johnstone Credit Union should call 01505 327148 or visit the office at 26 Church Street.
