PARTS of Johnstone and Paisley are among those to be named the most deprived in Renfrewshire.

Ferguslie Park is among the most poverty stricken areas in the whole of Scotland, but it has moved off bottom spot in the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) - a measure considering seven criteria including income and health.

The commonly named Howwood Road scheme in Johnstone, which includes Greenend Avenue, is the lowest ranked location outside of Paisley and ranks amongst Scotland's five per cent most deprived.

Houston North, in and around Main Street, was ranked the least deprived in Renfrewshire.

While the latest SIMD report highlights worrying levels of deprivation in some parts of Renfrewshire, overall levels in the county are down from 27 per cent in 2016 to 24 per cent now.

The findings, which are published by the Scottish government every four years, involve ranking 6,976 "datazones", effectively small postcode areas, across Scotland based on levels of income, employment, health, education, housing, access to services and crime.
