A NEW indoor athletics and community facility in Linwood is closer to reaching the finish line, thanks to a housebuilder’s donation.

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has donated £1,000 to Kilbarchan Amateur Athletic Club (AAC) as part of its ongoing commitment to working in partnership with local communities.

The new indoor athletics facility, based at Linwood Sports Complex, will allow the club to meet the inherent demand by runners, provide an enhanced capacity for athletes and other activities, and become a seven-day a week operation.

John Rodger, finance convenor of Kilbarchan AAC, said: “We are extremely grateful for the support that we have received from Taylor Wimpey. We can’t thank them enough for their generous donation to provide £1,000 towards our new facility. On behalf of everyone at Kilbarchan AAC, I would like to say a huge thank-you to the team at Taylor Wimpey.”

Proposals for the centre include a 60m running track, a pole vault, indoor throwing cage and a strength and conditioning area.

Two of the clubs most high-profile members are Olympians Callum and Derek Hawkins, who represented Great Britain in the Marathon at the 2016 Rio Olympics – with Callum finishing in ninth place.

Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to be involved in such a key local club that supports so many athletes of all levels of ability in the Linwood area. The work we do is a lot more than just building high-quality homes. Being able to work with local organisations that surround our developments means a great deal to us.”

Taylor Wimpey’s donation to Kilbarchan AAC is one of the many contributions being made by the housebuilder towards community facilities and infrastructure in the wider area.
