A CROOK nabbed 'thousands of pounds' worth of jewellery from a village home while a terrified pensioner was inside.

Police say the 81-year-old woman has been left shaken by the robbery, which occurred in Bridge of Weir on Friday.

The pensioner was inside her Ranfurly Road home when the robber entered via her unlocked front door at some time between 2.30pm and 6.55pm.

Police are still counting the value of the jewellery and personal items which were taken, but believe they will be worth thousands of pounds.

Detectives investigating the incident are asking for anyone with information to contact them.

They are also wanting to remind villagers and people across Renfrewshire to ensure their properties are secured at all times.

A police spokesperson added: "This was a shocking incident in which a vulnerable woman was targeted while inside her own home.

"We would like to remind people to always make sure their homes are secure and to keep their elderly neighbours in mind.

"If you see anything suspicious, please contact us immediately on 101."
