A MANHUNT is underway after a woman was sexually assaulted inside a major train station.

The victim was pounced on by an unknown man in Glasgow Central earlier this month.

The station is widely used by passengers in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, serving the likes of Johnstone and Barrhead.

The attack took place at around 4pm on Thursday, February 6, and the suspect is described as white, average build and with short fair or graying hair.

He was wearing a dark rain jacket, blue coloured fleece, dark trousers and carried a rucksack on his back.

He is reported to have sexually assaulted the woman by grabbing her.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.

"They would especially like to speak to a woman who comforted the victim and said she had witnessed the offence but did not leave her details.
