CHILDREN, parents and staff at a village nursery have something to celebrate after receiving top marks from inspectors.

Wallace Early Learning and Childcare Centre, in Elderslie, was given rave reviews after officers from the Care Inspectorate, which regulates social services, dropped by.

In their report, published after an unannounced visit in October, inspectors have rated the centre as ‘very good’ – the second highest rating – for its care and support and quality of management and leadership.

The news is a huge boost to nursery staff, who are delighted to see their approach to early learning and care paying off.

Depute headteacher Diana Brooker told The Gazette: “We are absolutely delighted the hard work and dedication of the staff has been recognised.

“We are very fortunate to receive so much support from the parents, even by just making sure the children are in nursery.

“A big focus for us has been on outdoor learning, including in our forest.

“We involve the children from the school in a lot of our learning, with primary six pupils acting as Bookbug ambassadors. They are then paired up as buddies when the nursery kids make the move.”

Inspectors praised the nursery, run by Renfrewshire Council, for helping children to develop friendships during their time.

The report states: “We found management and staff to have effectively established a friendly, welcoming ethos where children were able to form friendships and have fun.”

The nursery, based within Wallace Primary, was also commended for its safeguarding approach and the support offered to children as they make the transition to school.

Parents were also full of praise for the nursery within the report, with one stating: “My daughter attended a private nursery before securing a place at Wallace Nursery and the difference is night and day.”
