RENFREWSHIRE'S test centre for driving instructors is one of the hardest in the UK to gain a pass from, it has been revealed.
On average over the past decade, just 18 per cent of applicants who took the instructional test at the centre in Linwood Road, Paisley, passed – making it the toughest in Scotland.
It also claims joint fourth place for test centres across the whole of the UK.
The findings have been announced by car specialist AMT, which analysed Department for Transport data and found huge differences between pass rates for would-be driving instructors training at different centres.
Ian Wright, of AMT, said: “The fact that instructor pass rates at individual test centres vary by such huge margins will be shocking to many, as it suggests the standards against which applicants are judged also differ. Normally, you would expect test centres’ results to vary around a common figure and for them to even out over time.”
