THREE worthy causes have landed a welcome windfall, thanks to caring Tesco customers.

Shoppers at stores in Linwood, Renfrew and Barrhead were asked to cast their votes to help community projects secure grants of up to £25,000 through the Bags of Help initiative.

The scheme sees money raised from the sale of reusable ‘Bags for Life’ in Tesco stores being used to fund local projects.

Customers decide where the money goes, casting votes for shortlisted charities by using blue tokens handed out in stores.

And their efforts will mean a £25,000 boost for children’s charity Over The Wall, with mental health organisation Penumbra awarded £15,000 and a £10,000 grant going to Home-Start, which offers vital support to families, focusing on building their health and wellbeing.

Keith Jackson, Tesco’s Bags of Help manager, said: “They’re all worthy winners and we hope this funding helps them continue their important work in our communities.”

Bags of Help applications for 2020 are now open, with another three worthy causes to be rewarded.
