RAIL services in Renfrewshire were disrupted yesterday as Storm Dennis took hold of the county. 

Dramatic footage showed water pouring onto overhead railway lines from an aqueduct in Bishopton.

The video of the water was shared on social media by Network Rail showing the severity of the incident at the village where the tracks flooded.

As a result, trains between Glasgow and Gourock/Wemyss Bay were cancelled while engineers rushed to the site. 

ScotRail put on replacement buses for passengers between Paisley Gilmour Street and Gourock/Wemyss Bay.

The rail firm took the decision to switch off overhead power lines due to the water from the aqueduct.

Network Rail engineers worked through the day to stop the water and get the line up and running again. 

Services have since returned to normal but passengers have reported slight delays this morning.

Flooding was reported across Renfrewshire this weekend as the season's second storm wreaked havoc. 

The Renfrew Ferry was forced to cancel its services on Saturday after the River Clyde burst its banks.

A Met Office yellow weather warning remains in place for Renfrewshire this morning, with forecasters predicting heavy winds will continue to batter the area.
