A JOHNSTONE MSP has backed plans to transform the town into a ‘dementia friendly’ centre.

Tom Arthur believes the proposals by the Johnstone Dementia Friendly Group (JDFG) will lead to a safer and more welcoming environment for patients and their loved ones.

The Renfrewshire South man has already seen the success of similar plans in nearby Lochwinnoch and now hopes as many people as possible will show their support by heading along to tonight's meeting.

He told The Gazette: “I’m so pleased to support the work of the Johnstone Dementia Friendly Group, and want to thank Johnstone Community Council for the support they have shown in hosting this meeting.

“This is an opportunity for those who are affected by dementia and those who care for them to share their views and experiences in a highly supportive environment.

“I’m looking forward to the meeting and will offer all the help I can to the JDFG team and those who attend.”

The meeting takes place in the Johnstone Town Hall from 7pm tonight and is free to attend.
