AN East Renfrewshire group has been handed a £1,000 Lottery grant to bring Neilston residents together for a summer event.
The Neilston War Memorial Association (NWMA) will use the donation from the National Lottery’s 25th birthday fund to organise a community fun day at Kingston Park this July.
The event will bring local residents together to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
Matthew Drennan, secretary of the Neilston War Memorial Association, said: “We are very happy to receive this funding from the National Lottery.
“We’re looking to have a wee picnic in the park to celebrate the anniversary of VE Day, with games such as giant dominoes and hula-hoops for the kids.
“Hopefully the celebrations will bring the older folk in the village out to the event.
“These events help bring the community together and a lot of friendships have been struck up through Lottery-funded activities we’ve done, such as bagpipe parades and putting on the Christmas lights.”
Neil Ritch, director of the National Lottery Community Fund Scotland, added: “It’s fantastic to see people’s love for their communities inspiring them to use National Lottery funding to make great things happen.”
