MEMBERS of the Renfrew Over-50s Swimming Club have gone to great lengths to help a worthy cause.

The group has been supporting Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) for more than 25 years and recently presented the charity with a cheque for £700 following a successful Christmas coffee morning.

That brings the fundraising total to a whopping £16,665.

Effie McGachie, club treasurer, told how CHAS has been a cause close to her heart after her niece died from leukaemia at the age of 14.

She said: “Our last event was our biggest so far. It grew and grew, with so much effort from everyone involved, and we made £700, which was absolutely marvellous.”

Maxine Campbell, community fundraiser for CHAS, met Effie and some of the other club members to collect the latest donation and thank them for their continued support.

She said: “The club members have been incredible supporters for over 25 years.”
