A MUCH-LOVED music project faces an uncertain future after its base was ravaged by flooding last week.

The Erskine Music and Media (EMM) studio is currently homeless following damage to Bargarran Community Centre.

Classes have been cancelled all week as council bosses try to find the group a temporary base.

EMM offers music lessons and more to scores of children from Erskine and beyond.

Councillor Michelle Campbell, EMM chairperson, admits the damage is a severe blow to the group.

“There is a lot of water,” said Councillor Campbell, who represents Erskine and Inchinnan for the SNP. “The place is completely soaked through.

“We have had to cancel our whole programme for the week and we still don’t know when we will be able to start up again.

“There is also a renovation which was done by local kids and there is concern all of their hard work could be ruined.

“It is difficult in Erskine because there’s a lack of space because it is all being used by so many brilliant groups.

“The space we have is precious and there is a concern we could be left without it.

“The group serves about 100 young people who learn all about music and also about Erskine.”

She added: “We must say the council and Renfrewshire Leisure have been really helpful and are working hard to find us an alternative venue.”

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “Over the weekend our emergency repairs team responded to calls from Erskine Music and Media Studio who reported flooding at Bargarran Community Centre.

"We supported the efforts of local volunteers and responded immediately to make the building wind-and-water-tight and are currently carrying out further repairs to ensure the facility is safe for use.

"During this time, colleagues at Renfrewshire Leisure are available to provide the group with assistance on alternative premises.”
