GLASGOW Airport has been crowned the best in the UK by the country’s leading travel advice website.

The Paisley-based airport topped the likes of Heathrow Airport and counterparts in Edinburgh to bag the title – with London Stansted coming last in the top 20.

The ranking – from The Points Guy UK – was based on strict criteria including amenities, commute and on-time flights.

They found that the journey from the airport to the city centre is, on average, just 16 minutes – with a direct express bus service taking you there for £8.50.

Parking was also found to be significantly cheaper than other airports – coming in at £15 in comparison to London City at £79.

Nicky Kelvin, director of content at The Points Guy UK, said: “The experience of how you begin and end your journey can make or break a trip.

“The airport experience is the first part of your journey and can either ensure you’re off on the right foot or it can be a thing of nightmares.

“With a solid score across both commute and on-time categories, Glasgow Airport comes out as our champion.”

Glasgow also performed well in terms of flight delays – with an average of just 14 minutes.

And the abundance of amenities also proved vital in bagging the top spot – with 16 restaurants, four lounges and a spa proving impressive for a relatively small airport.

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said: “To receive such a positive endorsement from The Points Guy UK is welcome news and most importantly, it is in keeping with the positive feedback we receive from the millions of people we welcome through our doors each year.

“Our passengers are at the heart of everything we do and providing them with a first-class customer experience continues to be a key priority for everyone at Glasgow Airport.”

The positive rating comes ahead of plans to introduce a metro link for the airport.

In January it was revealed council leaders in Glasgow and Renfrewshire agreed on the first phase – which would link Paisley Gilmour Street station and the airport by 2025 before extending east.
