COUNCILLORS have backed calls for disgraced MSP Derek Mackay to stand down. 

A motion submitted by Labour group leader Eddie Devine received cross-party support at a council meeting this morning. 

Some of those who supported the call are former colleagues and staff of Mr Mackay.

Mr Mackay has still not been seen in his Renfrewshire North and West ward since it emerged he had sent unwanted messages to a schoolboy.

He cannot be sacked as an MSP by the Scottish Government but he has been suspended by the SNP pending a full investigation by the party.
