AN investigation has been launched after the sudden death of a 16-year-old girl. 

The teenager died at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, shortly after being rushed from a children's home for vulnerable youngsters in the town. 

Emergency services were called to Roneil Children's House, in Stanley Road, at around 5pm yesterday when the alarm was raised. 

The teen was taken to the RAH but sadly died a short time later. 

Cops say they are not treating the death as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A police spokesperson confirmed to The Gazette: "Police were called to a property on Stanley Road, Paisley, around 5.05pm on Thursday, 27 February, 2020, following a concern for a person call.

“A 16-year-old girl was taken by ambulance to Royal Alexandra Hospital but died a short time later.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the loss of a young person yesterday at Roneil Children’s House, Paisley.

“Our immediate priority is to provide support to the family and our young people and staff. This is currently a police matter and we cannot make further comment at this time. We will release a formal statement in due course.”
