SEVERAL Johnstone roads are being closed as council staff patch up carriageways hit by severe winter weather.

A partial closure has been in place in Overton Crescent since Monday, with Woodbank Crescent partially shut from today until Friday, between the junctions with Dimity Street and Rosebank Gardens.

From Monday, March 9, to Wednesday, March 11, Ellerslie Street will close from its junction with Ann Street to Russell Street.

Meanwhile, the section from Loudon Gardens to Russell Street will be shut from Tuesday, March 10, to Thursday, March 12, and the section from Ann Street to John Lang Street will be inaccessible between Wednesday, March 11, to Friday, March 13.

Overton Road will close between Beith Road and Fraser Avenue from March 16 to 18, before Hagg Road is shut between its junctions with Graham Street and Ulundi Road between March 18 and 19.

Workers will move on to shut Beech Road, between Kilbarchan Road and Ryefield Avenue, and Longmeadow, from Kilbarchan Road to Ryefield Place, on March 19 and 20.

Finally, Cochranemill Road will be closed on March 23 and 24, and work will be completed at Dundonald Avenue from  March 26 to 30.

Councillor Andy Steel, who represents the Johnstone South and Elderslie ward, said: “More areas will follow these, running repairs on potholes will also continue and resurfacing work will resume during the period it is possible, which is roughly April to October.

“But these works will address some long-standing areas of Tarmac decrepitude.

“This is hugely welcome but, if you live on a street with a knackered road, it’s irritating to see other places get done. I’ve got a list of about a dozen roads I’m lobbying to be resurfaced.”
