A FED-UP Renfrew couple who are just three months away from welcoming their first child are pleading for help to fix their mould-infested home.

Jennie McLaughlin, 31, and her 38-year-old husband Paul have decided to move into temporary accommodation due to the damp conditions at their flat.

They said a leak in the roof of their communal close means water pours into their flat when it rains, causing the ceilings to crack and mould to grow under their carpets.

The couple have accused Hacking and Paterson Management Services, who are factors for the property, of ignoring their requests for help and failing to treat the situation as an emergency.

The company have put the repairs to the block’s 64 residents for a vote after a surveyor said the bill would come to several thousands of pounds.

This means residents have the option to snub the repairs, with Paul expressing his frustration at the “neverending” situation.

“There doesn’t seem to be any time limit on how long people can vote for,” he said.

“We can’t buy any essential baby items as the place is a mess and currently uninhabitable for a baby, due to the mould caused by the delay in fixing the communal roof.

“With only three months until the baby is due, we are stressed and worried we’ll have nowhere to live. There is no sign of Hacking and Paterson instructing the work to take place soon, despite qualified contractors being ready to go.

“A few of the residents have contacted me, saying this is an absolute joke and that they are one hundred per cent behind us.”

Hacking and Paterson were approached for comment.
