A JOHNSTONE man has been enjoying his new-found fame after appearing on television screens in millions of homes across the UK.
Douglas Scott featured in a prime-time advert for mobile telephone network giffgaff as part of its sponsorship of hit ITV show The Voice.
The ad shows 53-year-old Douglas spinning on top of a raised pink platform near Paisley Town Hall.
And the customer services officer, who works for the Clydesdale Bank in Paisley, revealed his memorable TV appearance wasn’t planned but, instead, came about due to good timing.
“I was just standing outside my work, waiting to get in, and there were people unloading video cameras from a van,” Douglas told The Gazette.
“I asked them what they were doing and then asked them, half-jokingly, ‘Are you looking for anybody to join in?’
“I wasn’t expecting their answer to be yes.”
Father-of-two Douglas only found out he would be appearing on television a few days before the giffgaff advert was first broadcast on ITV.
And he chose to make his small screen debut a surprise for his family.
“On the day, I told my family that they should watch The Voice tonight, as there might be somebody they know on the television,” said Douglas.
“We all had a good laugh about it once they realised the person I’d been talking about was me.”
While Douglas currently lives in Paisley, he says he feels proud to hail from Johnstone – and he insists his new-found fame won’t change him.
“I’m just an ordinary guy who was born and bred in Johnstone,” he said.
