Two boutique Renfrewshire hotels have shut their doors indefinitely following the rapid outbreak of coronavirus.

The Lynnhurst Hotel in Johnstone and the Bowfield Hotel and Country Club in Howwood suspended trading last week as part of a shutdown across the award-winning Manorview Hotels and Leisure Group.

But the firm has reached out to the NHS to offer up bedrooms at certain establishments if they are needed for staff or patients.

It is currently unknown when the hotels will be able to reopen, but bosses have said no staff will be made redundant as a result of the closures.

While Manorview was not instructed to close its establishments, management said the decision was taken with people’s health and safety in mind.

Steve Graham, Manorview business owner, said: “We believe we are taking forward-thinking steps by suspending trading. We are protecting our team as much as we can during this time.

“We have always been a very people and community-focussed business and we are now looking at other ways we can offer our help.

“We have already reached out to the NHS to offer our hotel rooms and many of our venues are located in communities around central Scotland. We are looking at ways we can help, including take-away meals and delivery services. We will be updating on this service in due course.”

All staff members across the whole company will continue to receive 50 per cent of their average weekly gross earnings until further notice, including directors.

The administrative team will continue to operate as normal for now, and staff will be working to maintain the safety and security of all hotels.

All customers will be contacted by management in the coming days if they have made a booking.

Bosses at Manorview added in an official statement: “We are contacting all our customers who have bookings with us. We are working with them to reassure them we will look after them as best we can. While our venues will not be accessible, we will have an administrative team available via phone and email for any questions.

“As a business, as a team, and as individuals, we are all concerned about the health and safety of others.

“We would like to thank you all for your valued and very much appreciated support and loyalty.”
