A SHOPKEEPER was slapped in the face by a would-be booze thief after he stopped a raid in his store.

The 46-year-old man was hurt when he confronted the thug inside Lifestyle Express, Renfrew, at around 12.30pm yesterday.

Cops say an unknown man entered the Paisley Road store and tried to nab booze, only to be foiled by the shopkeeper.

He then slapped his victim in the face before sprinting off towards Cockels Loan and escaping.

The suspect is described as a white male, aged in his mid-20s, with black hair and wearing black trousers.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
