A PRISONER who punched a fellow inmate after he spilled curry sauce on him was jailed today for 10 months.

Craig Chalmers, 23, pounced on Kevin Flood, 28, in September 2018 at Glasgow’s Barlinnie prison.

Flood needed hospital treatment after receiving a cut upper lip.

Chalmers pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to Flood’s injury.

Prison officers heard “shouting and banging” in a stairwell and went to investigate.

Flood was found with a “blooded face” and Chalmers was standing nearby.

Chalmers told officers: “F*** sake, he spilled food on my trousers.”

He was escorted back to his cell while Flood was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Prosecutor Mark Allan told the court: "The doctor said the wound would need stitches.”

Gerry Devaney, defending, told the court Chalmers had been dealt with internally by the prison.

He added: “Mr Flood was carrying a tray of food and there was curry sauce on it. There was a coming together.

“Mr Chalmers thought it was deliberate. He was left with curry sauce on his top and trousers.”
