AN inspirational pair of care home workers from Johnstone are preparing to wave goodbye to their luscious locks for a good cause.

Andrea Kyle and Wilma Johnston have decided to ‘brave the shave’ to raise cash for a party for residents at Lancefield Care Home, in Rankine Street, once the coronavirus restrictions have been lifted.

The upcoming event has already raised more than £1,000 and will be streamed live on Facebook today, starting at 2pm, allowing family and friends to watch, along with residents at the care home.

Andrea, nursing sister at Lancefield, admits the idea to shave their hair off seemed silly at first.

“I work the nightshift with Wilma and the idea came up during conversation,” she told The Gazette.

“We were just laughing and joking but then we realised we could raise money for the residents and it snowballed from there.

“A lot of the residents can’t believe that we’re going to do it and one of them told me they think we are off our heads.”

Andrea hopes the event and the money raised from it will help bring some light relief to residents at a time when much remains unknown.

She said: “The residents can’t see their families and are quite isolated in the home at the moment.

“It would be great if this big celebration gives them something to look forward to and helps them get back to some kind of normality.

“However, we won’t stage the party until we are absolutely sure that it will be safe for the residents.”
