SUPERMARKET staff have launched a delivery service exclusively for vulnerable and elderly residents across Renfrewshire.

The Morrisons doorstep delivery service is designed to help those who are most at risk during the coronavirus crisis by delivering essential food to their homes.

It has been rolled out at all Morrisons stores across the country, including those in Johnstone, Paisley and Erskine.

Julie Scott and Jackie Docherty, community champions at Morrisons in Johnstone, have been working hard to make deliveries every day to those in need.

“The work that Julie and Jackie are doing is phenomenal,” said Yvonne Frame, who is people manager at the Johnstone store.

“We’ve received a lot of positive comments from the customers that we’ve delivered to.

“This new service is important because it allows vulnerable and elderly residents to keep to their weekly shopping routine as much as possible.”

A special hotline number has been set up which allows shoppers to choose from a list of essential food items, including meat, vegetable and dairy products.

Callers can also make special requests for items and will receive their order the next day.

All delivery drivers follow social distancing guidelines, with shopping left on customers’ doorsteps, and a portable table is used by drivers for customers to make their contactless payments on.

Elspeth Roxburgh, community champion at the Morrisons store in Erskine, said: “Our staff are working hard to make sure our community is well looked after.

“We are donating £1,000 of stock per store every week to local foodbanks and have also donated care packages to key workers throughout our community.”

To use the doorstep delivery service, call 0345 611 6111 and select option five to place your order.

The line is open from 8am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday.
