A MAN has been arrested for an alleged assault on a neighbour in Renfrew.

It is claimed the 32-year-old suspect repeatedly struck the 51-year-old man in the head and face in Renfield Street at around 9.30pm on Thursday, after a heated argument broke out between them.

A passer-by reported the incident to the police, who promptly arrived and arrested the suspect, who was later released on an undertaking.

Police said the other man admitted himself to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, in Glasgow, but was later released.
