POLICE have appealed for information after a thief tried to steal a car in Renfrew.

The attempted theft, involving a Ford Focus, is believed to have taken place sometime between 1am and 7am this morning in Craigielea Road, where the vehicle had been securely parked.

Police said they were alerted by the 29-year-old owner after he discovered his car had sustained minor damage.

It appears the thief managed to gain entry to the vehicle but was unable to drive it away.

Anyone who can help the police with their investigation is asked to call officers on 101.
