POLICE are on the trail of a crook who abandoned a stolen car after a high-speed pursuit.

The Audi S5 was taken from Bridge of Weir and was later spotted by traffic officers being driven at high speed in Glasgow at around 2.40am on Sunday.

Cops pursued the vehicle through the city’s Clyde Tunnel and it was found abandoned a short time later, with no trace of the driver.

Officers then went to the home of the car's owner, in Bankend Road, Bridge of Weir, who was not aware it had been stolen.

The 41-year-old man discovered that his kitchen window had been forced open and his car keys taken from the house.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101.
