AN investigation is underway after a would-be thief tried to break into a house in Linwood.

A 34-year-old woman and her partner where awakened at their home in Erskinefauld Road at around 11.20pm on Sunday, when they heard the sound of breaking glass downstairs.

After further investigation, the couple found the outer window pane of their front door had been broken, with a hammer left lying on the ground outside.

They were informed by a passing dog walker of a man seen running down the street and entering the passenger seat of a small blue car, which then drove off at high speed along Greenfarm Road.

Police are keen for the dog walker or anyone who has information about the incident to call them on 101.
