AN East Renfrewshire charity has been awarded grants to help people put their end-of-life care plans in place.
Friends at the End (FATE) received £10,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund and £5,000 from Foundation Scotland to support its work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Formed as a voluntary society in 2000, FATE was awarded charitable status in 2018.
It is based at Kirkhill House, in Newton Mearns, but works with people across throughout Scotland.
Amanda Ward, FATE chief executive, told the Barrhead News: “This award will help us to support more people – especially those in need by reason of age, ill health and other disadvantage – to document their end-of-life wishes, by assisting with the preparation of powers of attorney, advance directives, advance statements etc.
“We already offer this support to our members via a telephone advice line, video conferencing and newsletters and e-bulletins. We also cover the associated legal and registration fees for those who otherwise could not afford it.
“These grants will allow us to reach more people.”
