A WOMAN has been arrested over an alleged assault in a Renfrew flat.

It is claimed the 44-year-old suspect punched a 43-year-old woman on the head in Renfield Street yesterday afternoon after a heated argument broke out over a mobile phone.

Police said the two women, who are understood to be known to each other, had met in Renfield Street earlier and had been drinking alcohol together.

After the alleged assault, officers traced the suspect in a nearby street and she was taken into custody.

The woman who was injured suffered bruising to her face but did not need hospital treatment.

A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
