A RENFREWSHIRE hotel is hoping to bounce back from the coronavirus crisis by opening 10 glamping pods for those who plan to ditch foreign holidays and opt for a staycation instead.

Bosses at Bowfield Hotel and Country Club, in Howwood, are planning to open the timber lodges to guests early next year, with construction work expected to take a few months to complete.

Each of the 10 pods is set to accommodate between two and six people and will have its own private outdoor hot tub.

A spokesperson for Bowfield, which is owned by The Manorview Group, told The Gazette: “The hotel has been part of an extensive redevelopment plan for the past three years.

“This has seen the introduction of The Stables Bar and Plumpy Duck Restaurant and upgrading to include a state-of-the-art gym, AURA Spa and a new outdoor hydrotherapy pool, as well as a refurbishment of function rooms, the exterior of the building and the outdoor beer garden.

“The Manorview Group are continually looking to redevelop and add more value for their customers.

“This new proposal complements what is already at the Bowfield and continues the group’s investment in the property and in the area.”

The glamping pods are designed to accommodate all demographics and will be open to people of all ages, including couples, friends and families.

They will be located in a field to the right of the driveway on entry to the Bowfield Hotel, with the project still in its early planning stages and more details to be confirmed.

Since suspending bookings in March at the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown, the hotel has been providing free rooms to nurses required to self-isolate away from their families.

The pod plans are expected to be considered by Renfrewshire Council in due course.
