COPS are targeting dodgy drivers and boy racers after a number of complaints from fed-up residents.

Several motorists speeding through Renfrew, Inchinnan and Bridge of Weir have been handed on-the-spot fines by cops, with others given a warning.

Officers also charged a 24-year-man with dangerous driving for reportedly travelling at 91mph in a 40mph zone last week.

Councillor Jane Strang, who represents Renfrew North and Braehead, contacted police after being told about quad bikes and motorcycles speeding along Sandy Road and Broadloan, often early in the morning and late at night.

The Tory member has welcomed a pledge by police to tackle the issue of boy racers in Renfrew.

Councillor Strang said: “It is unfortunate that excessive speeding continues to plague residents in my ward and I urgently took these matters up with local police.

“It is completely unacceptable that constituents are disturbed by these vehicles and excessive noise from as early as 7.30 in the morning to close to midnight.

“I welcome the commitment from police that there will be a repeated presence at the location in the coming weeks to clamp down on those who are disturbing residents.”

Police have confirmed they will be targeting speeding hotspots regularly in the coming weeks.

Sergeant Kevin McGee, who is based at Renfrew police station, told The Gazette: “We have received several reports of motorists speeding in the Renfrewshire area. As such, we are proactively targeting each and every one of them.

“In Renfrew, Inchinnan and Bridge of Weir, there have been numerous speeding tickets and warnings issued.

“We intend to monitor these roads regularly.

“We would ask the public to drive carefully at all times, even if the roads are quieter.”
