A DETERMINED fundraiser has gone the extra mile for a worthy cause...by running 10km every day for 10 days.

Chloe Calvert, from Paisley, took on the marathon challenge in aid of the Neilston and Uplawmoor First Responders.

She set herself a fundraising target of £500 and, by the time she completed the challenge on Wednesday, had managed to coin in more than £600.

Chloe was keen to support the voluntary group as it is unable to stage its usual fundraising events due to the coronavirus lockdown.

She had only completed a couple of 10km runs before deciding to hit the streets in a bid to boost her fitness at a time when staying indoors has become the new normal.

Chloe said: “Running is something I’ve always enjoyed but rarely had the time to do. However, during lockdown, as a method of distraction and to keep my fitness levels up, I upped my running.

"I then saw a few running challenges for June and thought 'I want to do something' – but I wanted something which isn’t the usual event or that I’ve heard anyone do before.

"When a family friend suggested running 10km for 10 days, my first thought was 'not a chance' but then I thought again and figured it was a case of better now than never.”

The money raised by Chloe will help the Neilston and Uplawmoor Community First Responders continue to respond to medical emergencies whilst an ambulance is on its way.

The charity has responded to thousands of emergency calls since it was launched in 2014 and was honoured with the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, which is the equivalent of a MBE for voluntary groups.

Stuart McLellan, of Neilston and Uplawmoor Community First Responders, said “All of our team, from the board to volunteers, fully appreciate Chloe’s fundraising efforts.”
