A MAN has been charged with breach of the peace and illegal possession of a knife after police were called to a disturbance near Renfrew fire station.

It is claimed that a number of men in a red Honda Civic were involved in a dispute with two pedestrians in the town's Paisley Road on Wednesday night.

A 27-year-old suspect who was a passenger in the car reportedly left the vehicle and chased the two pedestrians with a knife after a confrontation.

When police arrived at the scene at around 8.50pm, all of the men involved in the disturbance ran off.

The suspect allegedly in possession of the knife was arrested nearby and was due to appear in court on Thursday.

A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for information from witnesses or anyone who has any knowledge of the incident to come forward to assist us in our investigation.”
