FRIENDS and neighbours of a Renfrewshire couple who lost three children in a house fire lined the streets this afternoon to pay their respects.

Tears were shed as the funeral procession for 12-year-old Fiona Gibson and her brothers Alexander James, eight, and Philip, five, passed through Paisley.

All three youngsters died after a blaze tore through the family home in the town's Renfrew Road on June 19.

The Gazette:

Their mum, Julie Daley, was seriously injured but was discharged from hospital in time to help arrange today's funeral for her kids.

Alex Gibson, the children's dad, had been visiting a local shop when the fire took hold.

People were asked to wear colourful clothing and to clap softly as the funeral procession passed through the Gallowhill area of Paisley.

The first of the three hearses carried a pink coffin, while the other two carried blue ones.

The cortege passed close to St Catherine's Primary School, where the two younger boys were pupils.

After leaving the Gallowhill area, the cortege made its way to Hawkhead Cemetery.

The Gazette:

A JustGiving page set up by a family friend and posted on Mr Gibson's Facebook page has raised more than £29,000 – well beyond the £10,000 target.

In a message on the page last week, its founder Esther Chalk wrote: "Please keep both Alex and Julie in your thoughts and prayers, and they want every single person to know how grateful they are for everything and every donation received."

Police have said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
